Good afternoon people, and a very Happy New Year to you all! Welcome to Tempo Tea Bar’s blog number 2!
Today we plan on sharing with you a nice hot chai recipe to get rid of that sore throat that’s been bugging you all winter, and you’ll get to know Jerrica our amazing shop manager in Queen Street.
We know the cold is getting to you as much as it is getting to us so we’d like to make your home that bit better and cosy with some yummy healthy tea recipes. Wooo!
Sweet Scrumptious Hot Chai Tea
We all love getting a chai latte in the winter, let’s face it! We have a treat for you this week with a recipe for making chai tea at home without even having to leave! Yaass.
What you’ll need:
- Chai teabag
- White sugar or brown sugar
This is one of the most comforting drinks and a really nice alternative to a hot chocolate or a brew. The spices in the tea are perfect for a pick me up after work or walking your dog in the freezing cold!
The instructions are very easy to follow which is perfect for those of you who don’t have much time. Everybody deserves a treat and this with a biscoff biscuit on the side is just delightful!
Step 1: Boil the kettle and pour into your cup with the chai tea in it. Let the tea brew for about 4 minutes and take the teabag out.
FUN FACT: Did you know that around 80% of the caffeine in tea is released during the first 30-seconds of steeping, therefore to remove most of the caffeine from any tea simply:
1) Pour boiling water over the tea leaves
2) Allow the leaves to steep for 30 seconds
3) Pour out the brew, saving the steeped leaves
4) Re-steep the same leaves with more boiling water for the recommended steeping times.
How cool is that?! This is a great way to get kids into drinking tea but the lack of caffeine means less wild and wonderful kiddies running around at half past 10 in the evening. Not bad eh?!
Step 2: Add 2 teaspoons of sugar to the brew. You might want more or less sugar depending on your sweetness preference, so feel free to put more or less sugar in - entirely up to you! Opt for brown sugar if you prefer being a tad bit healthier, New Year after all :-p
Step 3: Pour a dash of milk and a pinch of cinnamon. Stir in the milk and cinnamon and bob’s yer uncle! Done!
Tip - You can add some honey to help soothe a sore throat or if you want it sweeter - it’s delicious :-)
MEET THE MANAGER
This is Jer, our longtime lovely fabulous shop manager, mainly based in the Glasgow Queen Street store. Always the life and soul of the party, Jer is definitely somebody we would be lost without!
1. What is your fave bubble tea?
Hot Coconut and Lychee Milk Tea, Chai base, with Egg Pudding and extra extra Tapioca, yummmmm!!
2. What is your spirit animal??
Llama (I don’t actually spit at people … :p)
3. What New Year’s resolution have you made in the past and actually kept?
I don’t really make resolutions anymore because I never keep them! One year I tried to replace taking the bus for walking, and I’ve pretty much stuck to that since - obviously just for the shorter journeys!
Thank you for taking the time to read our wee blog! See you again next month!
